But God cares for them and has special purpose for them: “They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming: ‘The LORD is upright; he is my Rock…’” (Psalm 92:14-15). God has been putting seniors ministry on many hearts in Bridgeview. He’s been calling us to bring His blessing to all the gray-haired in our church and in the community.
When we prayed for the name of our new group, God spoke to us with the words from Matthew 5:15: “You are the salt of the earth…” Yes, truly, our seniors contribute to this special flavor of the church body. They are the SALT – Senior Adults Living in Truth”

The more advanced in age they are, the more they fix their eyes on the Lord. It is because they get closer and closer to making their next step in their journey on the narrow road: to meet the Lord. And the Spirit prepares them for this step, revealing them more and more God’s glory and holiness.
| Seniors are a marvelous blessing for any congregation. They can minister through their life experience, wisdom, patience, peace, perseverance; they know what a long-suffering love is; they know how faithful the Lord is. We know the expression: they are “full of days”. Let’s listen to our seniors; let’s hear from them what great things the Lord has done for them. They are “full of years” where each year of their lives is like a thick book full of testimonies; each year is like a treasure chest full of blessings. And from years perspective they can now see and understand how God’s plan for their life has been fulfilled. We all can learn so much from our seniors.
With older age new needs come, though. The grocery bags and laundry baskets get heavier, the cars get tougher or impossible to drive, ice becomes more slippery and deadly icy. With such simple, every-day needs the seniors can open the door for you to step in and minister; to bless them and to receive thousand more blessings.
If we forget, neglect or simply don’t look to see those simple, every-day needs, we might lose our precious seniors. And if we lose them, we lose this special flavor… and then, how else shall our church be seasoned? |

It goes without saying: each church body has different parts: different groups, different ministries. We have children, youth, young adults, parents, men and women groups… but there’s one body-part which tends to be forgotten and neglected: our seniors.
