As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another (Proverbs 27:17 NIV)
By the grace of God, The Men's Ministry here at Bridgeview exists to introduce men to Jesus Christ, develop godly character through a deeper relationship with Him and other men, and equip them to serve as the Holy Spirit leads.
In other words - Men Ministry is devoted to building relationships with men in the church, and through these relationships growing closer to Jesus. Steve Northenscold, the ministry leader, is a firm believer that it can be accomplished by offering various opportunities for the men - both newcomers and seasoned attendees.
One of such opportunities is the Wednesday night's Men's Bible Study. Last year the class was based on the book called The Measure of a Man* by Gene Getz. The men took turns covering chapters on 20 different Godly qualities outlined by the apostole Paul in 1 Timothy. The study used these characteristics as a way of measuring one's maturity as a Christian and as a way of motivating the participants to live a more Christ like life. As all the men admit, the class touched them in many ways, with ideas for real life applications and words of inspiration.
At this time, men's group is studying The End Time Prohecies. The format of the study allows anyone to drop in at any given point. Please take this as invitation to join whenever your schedule permits.
The other important area of men activities are outings.
Men are busy all summer long with trips to the lake, golf course, amusement parks and more. It might look like they are just having fun. But in fact, all the activities are designed for men to build strong relationships and to build character. Some of the most important events to mention would be Father and Son Fishing Day by the Buffalo Lake and Father and Daughter Outing at River City Amusement Center. These are great opportunities for men to be role-models for their kids, as well as learn from other men and grow in their parenting qualities. Another men's favorite is the Trap Shot and Chili Feed in fall, which always is an invigorating time of excitement, helping to prepare for the upcoming winter season.
Prayer is also a crucial part of Men Ministry at Bridgeview. Each Wednesday night the group spends some time praying together. Last year the men went on wih a 40 day perpetual fast (taking turns and each man fasting for a day). As the participants admit, it was a great journey and they all experienced spiritual breakthroughs in their lives. The group plans on starting another fast again this fall.
Last but not least, men are honored to minister as ushers during Sunday services - for offering and for communion time.
